On May 8 2021, XPERTO was given the privilege to host an event for the Geological Society of the Philippines (GSP)—the team responsible for the Philippine Mineral Reporting Code (PMRC) webinar on Competent Person in Geology. The goal of the webinar was to have its members understand what PMRC 2007 is, and to shed light on the updates on PMRC 2020, its updated qualifications, standards, and guidelines. This, in turn, served as a refresher course for Geologist Competent Persons (CPs), and an introductory course to aspiring Geologist CPs.
During the webinar, Ciceron A. Angeles Jr., the Philippine Mineral Reporting Code Committee (PMRCC) Chairperson, and other industry leaders expressed their confidence in the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that they will approve the proposed improvements from PMRC 2007 to PMRC 2020 in reporting policies of mining firms, which they said can encourage expansion plans while preventing frauds like “Busang”.
Key members such as Arnulfo Pascual B. Santiago presented on the PMRC 2007 edition and its implementing rules and Regulations
In the said webinar, C.A. Angeles presented updates on the new organizational structures, roles, purposes, objectives of the committee and conveyed about the new PMRC Upgrade from 2007 to 2020 edition.
After which, Joey Nelson R. Ayson illustrated the implementation of the CP system relative to that of the PMRC—emphasis was on the qualifications of its members, requirements and assessment procedures for accreditation.
In closing, Vice Chairman and Mineral reporting Code Committee (MRCC) secretariat, Cecilio C. Bautista, presented the GSP Code of Ethics to update its members on relevant legislations, monitoring and enforcement, ethics committee, complaints procedure, and articles under the code of ethics.
